Spring and Summer Activities in the Garden
With Summer now on us, deadheading is well under way and will continue right through until April. We have been pleased to welcome a number of new Members who have to be trained in our methods of dead-heading so that we gain maximum number of new blooms during the season.
This is also the time when we have requests from Groups for guided tours, so we have to make some time for them so that they will appreciate the Garden and the efforts of the Volunteers. It is so nice to show off, isn't it?
If you are plannng an event within the Garden, please appreciate that such functions come under the control of Parks Victoria. You should contact them during business hours on 03 8734 5140 for details.
We usually have a small presentation area at the International Flower and Garden Show which this year will be on from 28th March to 1st April at the Exhibition Building. See us there.
"La Sevillana" is an outstanding Floribunda, semi double, orange /red which will bloom for an extended period. This is the rose we chose as a standard to replace the row of Cathedral City which suffered badly during our years of drought and heat wave. It is looking good this year.
GARDEN EVENTS
We have no special events for the public during this growing period as the Garden is a really special event in itself, so please feel free to come and visit with us.
The Garden is open seven days a week all year round, from 9.30 to 6.30 during the daylight saving period, including public holidays. Visitors are particularly welcome to come down on sunny Wednesdays or Saturdays (mornings) and talk to the volunteers as they carry out their pleasant duties. We are very proud to show off our Garden. We don't work when its wet. If you live in the area, come and see what a diverse and pleasant group we are - you may decide to join us as a volunteer - we always need more hands.
Many people decide to use the Victoria State Rose Garden as a venue for their functions. It is a delightful place for any function. Just outside the Garden fence are picnic areas with shelters and barbeques, with ample parking and room for ball games or cricket.
The Supporters do not control such access to the Garden. If you would like to make use of the beautiful surrounds, you should contact Parks Victoria during business hours on 03 8734 5140
